Arts and Life Mission Statement

Arts and Life will create content that is relevant and impactful to student life through timely and creative web and print production. The section will focus on campus and the London community by creating a wide variety of content to inform, educate and entertain a diverse student population.

How we will fulfill this

Arts and Life will:

  • Ensure material is balanced and will appeal to a wide audience
  • Emphasize utility — readers should want to share, comment and cut out articles
  • Experiment with multimedia, design and illustration in creating content
  • Elevate the quality of stories by conducting daily story searches, providing timely content and ensuring a variety of sources
  • Hold regular meetings between editors and volunteers to plan creative content and provide feedback to the section
  • Report live from events, such as concerts, speaking engagements, art exhibits, and experiment with reader interaction on social media, through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope, etc.
  • Improve the volunteer experience by providing regular feedback and experience in web skills

Arts & Life Editor Role Description

Arts & Life editors are responsible for covering a variety of topics, including but not limited to health, fitness, food, drink, technology, music, movies and fashion. Thus, a genuine interest in a wide range of subject matter is essential.

Editors will have to recruit and manage a team of volunteers, while making sure their section is producing quality content consistently.

Editors work on a one-day lead for the online and print editions of The Gazette and are required to produce daily interesting content for online. Editors are expected to be in the office from Monday to Friday, with varying hours based on volume of content.

Additionally, editors should be available weekends and evenings to cover concerts and special events. Editors should have a digital first mentality and be able to produce content online in a timely manner.
